WATCH - Successfully Launching the Electrification of Urban Transportation: Pilot Projects in Morocco and Peru
GSEP and the Institut de la Francophonie pour le développement durable (IFDD) held a webinar titled "Successfully Launching the Electrification of Urban Transportation: Pilot Projects in Morocco and Peru" on Wednesday, September 29.
Sustainable mobility is at the heart of cities’ development and takes an increasingly large role in national action plans against climate change. Although solutions such as electric subways and tramways have existed for a while, applications for road transport (buses, cars) are more recent and almost absent in Africa. Undertaking in-depth feasibility studies and implementing properly defined pilot projects are essential for large-scale electrification of road transportation.
L'Office national de l’électricité et de l’eau potable (ONÉE) has recently launched a study roadmapping the development of electric mobility in Morocco. In Peru, the Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership (GSEP) and its partners implemented an electric bus pilot project aiming at better understanding the viability of such a project and evaluating its large-scale replicability potential.
What regulatory and tariff aspects must be taken into consideration when developing a national plan for electric mobility? What role can utilities such as ONÉE play in implementing electric mobility? What are the technical conditions essential to successfully leading an electric bus pilot project? What type of expertise and training must be provided to operators? These are a few of the questions that will be addressed in this webinar.
