GSEP is proud to support 17 outstanding students from developing countries for the 2022 Education for Sustainable Energy Development (ESED) scholarship program. They have been selected from a pool of over 872 applications by an independent academic panel.
As we advance on the energy transition path, it is essential that our young leaders are equipped with the skills necessary to tackle the actual and future challenges of the power sector. As the energy industry faces major transformations, GSEP is proud to foster that expertise in the fields of enginnering, economics, management and public policy.
The organization has supported 163 students from 40 countries since 2001. This year’s recipients will also join GSEP’s Young Ambassadors for Global Electrification program.

- Mariana Glenda AVILA ZAYAS from Mexico is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Science and Engineering at Universidad Autónoma de Baja California in Mexico, in collaboration with Queen Mary University of London.
- Osama Ali Ahmed AWAN from Pakistan is pursuing a Master in Engineering specialized in Mechanical Engineering Simulation and Design (MESD) at the King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok in Thailand.
- Yuga Pramod BELE from India is pursuing a Master in Renewable Energy Engineering and Management at TERI School of Advanced Studies in India.
- Daniel Andre CRUZ FORTIN from Honduras is pursuing in Master in Renewable Energy Management at the Central American Technological University (UNITEC) in Honduras.
- Samuel CUDJOE from Ghana is pursuing an M.S. in Renewable Energy at Cranfield University in the United Kingdom.
- Alaa El Ouazani DAHAK from Morocco is pursuing a Master’s in Green Building Engineering and Energy Efficiency at Mohamed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P).
- Dawit Gebreslassie GEBREMESKEL from Ethiopia is pursuing a master’s in electrical engineering, with Specialization in Renewable Energy Systems, at the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology in Poland.
- Toluwanimi Ayodeji MAKINWA from Nigeria is pursuing an M.Sc. in Sustainable Energy Futures at Imperial College London in the United Kingdom.
- Devaji Prakash PATIL from India is pursuing a Masters program in Electrical Engineering specialized in Smart Systems and Power Electronic Technology at the University of Stuttgart in Germany.
- Laura POLANCO from Dominican Republic is pursuing an M.Sc. in Environmental Economics and Climate Change at London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in the United Kingdom.
- Firmin SAM from Burkina Faso is pursuing a master’s program in Electrical Engineering for Renewable Energies and Smart Grids (RESMA) at Mohamed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Morocco.
- Majd SAYED AHMAD from Lebanon is pursuing a master’s in International Energy at Sciences Po Paris in France.
