Pasquale Salza, Head of Long Duration Storage & Hybrid Systems, Enel Global Power Generation
Kamayab Amouzegbar, Senior Reseacher, Hydro-Québec
GSEP hosted a webinar to present the outcomes of the white paper on second life batteries recently launched by GSEP’s Technological Commmnunity on storage.
The optimization of batteries’ life cycle is essential to ensure a sustainable future for electric mobility, and synergies between utilities and the EV sector must be developed in order to achieve a circular life cycle for EV batteries.
This webinar was presented by experts from GSEP member companies Enel and Hydro-Québec who shared experiences on second life battery projects and defined the enabling factors, limits and technical challenges to the integration of second life batteries.
About the speakers
Head of Long Duration Storage & Hybrid Systems of the Innovation department of Enel Global Power Generation.
Energy Engineer by Università di Pisa (Italy). He has 10 years experience in energy sector. He has started his career as maintenance engineer, then he has developed as project engineer projects related to energy efficiency, mini grids and energy storage. Now he’s leading an innovation team focused on energy storage, hybrid systems and hydrogen.
Senior researcher at Hydro-Québec’s Center of Excellence in Transportation Electrification and Energy Storage (CETEES).
He worked as scientist at Hydro-Quebec research institute, IREQ, on the development and scale up of several innovative and patented electrochemical and chemical processes between 1995 and 2001. He worked as VP of Technology at SAM Electron Technologies (a spin-off from the HQ Cerium oxidation electrochemical process applied to the production of vitamin K) as well as Director of R&D and Head of Innovation at Lonza, a multinational pharmaceutical company before joining the CETEES in 2015. He studied pharmacy at the Complutense University in Madrid and completed his Master’s degree and his Ph.D. at École Polytechnique of Montreal in electrochemistry (electrocatalysis). He has more than 25 years of experience in R&D, scale up and commercial operation of electrochemical processes. The main focus of his current activities is on the development of lithium batteries materials as well as recycling of lithium batteries.
