1999 Kyoto Summit

The 1999 Summit was held by Kansai in Kyoto. In recent years, electric power companies in both developed and developing countries have experienced growing public concern and opposition to proposed plans and decisions, sometimes resulting in project cancellation. This year the Partnership, under its e7 name, examined the issue of earning social trust in the the electric utility industry, which included organizing an international conference on “e7 Seminar on Electric Utilities and Social Trust in a Changing World –The Role of Social Trust in Strategic Planning” February 18-19, 1999 in Tokyo, Japan. This year’s findings have demonstrated that social trust plays an important role in the success of the policies, plans, and operations of the energy industry as a whole.
