Kansai Electric Power Company is one of the 10 major electric utility companies in Japan. The service area of the Company is located in the central part of the main island of Japan, and covers nearly 29,000 km². Kansai supplied 154.9 billion kWh to its 13.5 million customers in 2014. The area known as Kansai, with Osaka as its central city, constitutes a powerful economic area next to Tokyo. The company’s installed capacity is composed of 10% hydroelectric power, 83% thermal and 7% nuclear and renewable energies. Kansai’s total installed capacity is 35.97 GW and the company employs over 32,000 people (2014).
