2007 Osaka Summit

At the Annual Summit in Osaka, Japan, under the chairmanship of Kansai (Japan), the Chairmen of the nine world leading electricity companies from the G8 countries reaffirmed the importance of the Partnership’s role in addressing the global trilemma of securing sustainable energy supply and maintaining competitiveness, while protecting the global environment.

Following the discussions, the Chairmen put forward a statement, the 2007 Statement on Global Energy Issues, reflecting the role of the organisation in addressing such a trilemma, with a particular focus on the organisations response to the following specific global energy issues:

  • Climate change counter measures;
  • Energy efficiency improvement; and
  • Public acceptance of nuclear energy and other electricity infrastructure.

The organisation’s chairmanship was passed on to Hydro-Québec (Canada) for the year 2007-2008.
