The initiative was designed to stimulate discussions and share perspectives on the best practices for the successful development of sustainable large hydropower facilities in today’s social, economic and global environment. The objective was to create awareness about the role and benefits of sustainable large hydropower projects in mitigating climate change, in ensuring security of supply, in enhancing social and environmental mitigation measures, and in stimulating local regional development.
Two workshops were delivered under the initiative. The first workshop took place in November 2011 in Brazil, targeting Latin American countries. All the presentations and workshop proceedings are available here.
A second workshop was held in Russia from April 24-25, 2013, in Tolyatti, under the title "Large Hydropower: Creating Benefits for Sustainable Development". All the presentations and workshop proceedings are available here.
