The workshop on the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Power Sector Development was a joint initiative by the Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership (GSEP) and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), designed to promote a high level of interaction between host country experts and experts from both organisations.

The overall objective of this program was to enable targeted developing countries to effectively participate in the CDM by undertaking electricity sector projects consistent with the countries’ own sustainable development goals. The workshops were held in September 2004 in Managua, Nicaragua and Guayaquil, Ecuador, bringing together a total of 101 participants.
